Homeless Photography Project

Homeless Photography Project

In the winter of 2016, homeless people in Mandurah, Western Australia, were invited to use disposable cameras to record and share their experiences with the general public.  The result is a collection of deeply moving images that show a raw, authentic view of our city from a very different perspective.  Using these images, local artist Helen Coleman created a series of photo-encaustic artworks, to raise awareness and share information about how we can help our community's most vulnerable members.

The artwork was displayed in an outdoor gallery in Mandjar Square as part of Mandurah's Stretch Art Festival, 4-10 May, 2017.

This project was supported by WestAus Crisis, the City of Mandurah and Shape Mandurah.

You can listen to a 6MM podcast interview with Helen about the project here ...
